7. Module architucture!!!

This is one interesting project Encik Asri assigned us to finish up. We have to design a module that is ready made to join together if desired. More like those LEGO toys we used to play back when we were only 5 years young. I came up with around 7 modules before I ended up with this form.

6. Mourish Masjid in Malaysia

OK!! Where to start? Where to start??? Its been a long time. So let me see. First of all Ramadan Kareem to all the muslims out there! And a small salawat for our Prophet Muhammad...

"Oh Allah! Shower Blessings on Muhammad and his children whenever he is remembered by those who remember him and Shower blessings on Muhammad and family whenever he is not remembered by the negligent and grant him peace constantly in abundance"

Next I'd like to start by saying that I got an A- for my last project! Not bad huh? Now comes the next project design for Masjid Jamek.

The area is supposed to be at this parking lot. Top marks will be awarded to those who can design a visitors' center that symbolizes the 'spirit of the place'. I took over 100 shots with my cam just for the site analysis. But I'm not going to show all of them here. :D So after the Site Analysis we had to work in different groups to compose a presentation of all the analysis we had gotten. Heres what me and my group have done.

And the whole studio was supposed to build a model of the Masjid Jamek area. Heres the picture of the model.

So in the end, everything looked great. To be honest, I didn't help out that much for this model. I just glued some parts here and there. The credit goes to my other friends who have stayed up all night. Next we had to present our conceptual ideas, spatial organisation and mass model of the visitors' center. Heres the picture of my mass model.

Cute model huh? Its actually the size of my thumb. I got the conceptual idea from a dream I had the night before my presentation. Seriously, I was like drawing two squares and a circle in the middle to join them both on a sheet of butter paper. So thats just a summary of what has happened lately. Oh wait! I've also been busy with this bulletin for the Architecture club. Finally, the first issue of our bulletin launched and given out to all the members of the D'PARCH community!

5. Postponed presentation

On the day of my presentaion I got sick. Ughh...I didn't sleep properly. I noticed flaws in my 3D model and I wanted to make it as perfect as possible for one whole night without sleep! Thats what gave me the fever. And all my friends won't believe me saying that I don't eat enough vitamins. Ok, I may have eaten very little for one month, but how could I get sick if I ate so much for three days before I became sick? They are stubborn and they don't even know what I eat. I'm telling you, I didn't have enough sleep!

So I'll be giving my lecturer my MC next week. Here are my final products.

A1 Presentations

Final Model

So thats the end of my first project for semester one. Next project will be to design a building in Masjid Jamek!

4. Four more days, work in progress

I'm typing this blog while sitting in my old college building which I think is way more better than the new one. Its got wireless connection! Ok, I'm already through with my final crit and I got a B+!! I think that is really cool! But I know I still could have done much better. Now I need to work on my model and my final presentation for this coming monday. Thats like four more days! And all I've done is the 3D sketchup. The model is 1/4 finished and the A1 presentations are still left untouched! I really need to hurry up. Below is my 3Dvmodel of my design...

3. Food! Glorious Food!

Encik Asri is a great lecturer to me. He has impressed me in many ways for two semesters. An example would be the way he explains issues. He understands our problems being new students in a cramped environment. But for this new semester, its now Encik Hayazi and the more cramped studio. I need to get used to this. One good thing I like about this new and young lecturer is that he discusses about our projects twice a week.

And a more cramped studio

My recent design crits were only Cs, nothing more, nothing less. I've just shown my recent drawings and my mock-up model today. There has been alot of mistakes, but I should be able to do well for the final presentation which is due in one more week. He mentioned that my design is at least different from the rest. I was flattered.

2. My Second Year

Icon Projects

Small House

Pavilion

Retreat House

My previous projects were unsatisfactory. I know that I could have done better with enough guidance and a constant working schedule. I've always been late. During my end of year holidays, I prayed that I'd actually move to the second year. And alas! I'm through! I just had to repeat an examination paper once more. I was actually surprised at the results, especially the one I thought I did worst at, which was basic design...I got an A for the subject! (90-100%)

I was the only one in my year to get the A. Before me were A-, B+, B-, etc. I asked Encik Hayazi why I had gotten this mark even though I was told last year that my presentation lacked alot of requirements - organised drawings, labelled scales, interior drawings, and following what media I had to use. He explained that my project followed the most important requirement in the briefing, which was to adapt the retreat house to the given site. I was thrilled. All that hard work trying to measure the angle of the hill with my footsteps actually payed off. Alhamdulillah!

That was the past. Now comes the next project, "Food, Glorious Food!"

1. First post

I have no idea who would be reading this, but my aim is to blog about all the things that I have done for my architectural course targetting an imaginary audience. I will pretend that there are actually people reading this, maybe it would be best described as my architectural diary. But not anything that would be secretive. I guess Architectural Journal would be the best desription. These blog posts are actually for my own purpose and not really for anyone to read. But if you are currently reading this, and you enjoy my blogspot, then theres no stopping you. I will only say welcome to my page. :D
